Amanda Seyfried Should Do a Joni Mitchell Biopic

It should be some sort of FCC rule that every six months, Amanda Seyfried gets to appear on a talk show of her choice and display a new obscure talent she’s picked up. It could be the thing that saves broadcasting. On last night’s Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, she covered Joni Mitchell’s “California” on the dulcimer. The dulcimer. It appears to be an Appalachian dulcimer, specifically, which is best described as a plucked-string fretted zither, if that clarifies things at all. I barely know how to spell it, but Seyfried sure can play it, and her airy soprano slips perfectly into Mitchell’s 1971 song. Seyfried was ostensibly on the show to promote her new Peacock series, Long Bright River, but all that this did was make it clear that she could have her own Complete Unknown in a Joni Mitchell biopic. In other news, she confirmed that there will be another Mamma Mia! by 2038. Also, she’s working on a musical “about the leader of the Shaker movement in 1770.” That’s so dulcimer of her.
