Joe Russo, known for playing a sad gay guy in a support group in Avengers: Endgame and also co-directing it, will reportedly consider returning to the MCU for a two-film deal, per The Hollywood Reporter. This is a big get for the MCU, as Avengers: Endgame is the highest-grossing superhero movie of all time, and you can’t prove that’s not because it is the only one to feature sad gay guy. Notably, reports do not include if Russo is in talks to reprise his role. Instead, he is in conversation to return as a director alongside his brother Anthony Russo. The Russo brothers directed two Captain America films and two Avengers films already, including Endgame. The deal would include Avengers 5, currently set to come out May 1, 2026, and Avengers 6, for May 7, 2027. Given that Jonathan Majors is no longer appearing in the fifth film, intended to be called Kang Dynasty, why not give the unnamed sad guy a villain arc?
