Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Wins Album of the Year Grammy Award

Bet the CMAs feel pretty dumb right now. Beyoncé won both Best Country Album and Album of the Year at the 2025 Grammy Awards — in addition to Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “II Most Wanted” with Miley Cyrus. Below, all the hardware Cowboy Carter racked up at the 2025 Grammy Awards, her acceptance speeches, and the history made.

Bey is shook

February 2, 2024, 8:30 p.m.: Cowboy Carter won Best Country Album at the 2025 Grammy Awards, shocking many — first among them Beyoncé herself. Yoncé did a double take before taking the stage to accept her award from Taylor Swift. (A pity Kanye West had already left and wasn’t in the room to see this.) “I was not expecting this,” she said while holding the award. “I want to thank God that I’m able to still do what I love after so many years, oh my God! I’d like to thank all of the incredible country artists that accepted this, this album we worked so hard on … I think sometimes ‘genre’ is a cold word to keep us in our place as artists, and I just want to encourage people to do what they’re passionate about. And to stay persistent.”

Cowboy Carter led nominations going into this year’s Grammy ceremony, with 11 noms. Before the televised ceremony started, Bey had already won Best Country Duo/Group Performance for her duet with Miley Cyrus, “II Most Wanted.” The celebration of Cowboy Carter comes a day after Beyoncé announced a tour supporting the album. No details or dates have been released yet, but this just made it a lot harder to get tickets.

Bey is rattled, Bey is on a roll

February 2, 2024, 11:30 p.m.: And that’s Album of the Year, cowboys and cowgirls and cowtheys. Cowboy Carter took the night’s biggest prize, beating out Sabrina Carpenter, Brat, and André 3000’s jazz-flute album. It’s Beyoncé’s first time winning the award, after previously, famously, losing four times. “I’d like to thank and acknowledge and praise all of the firefighters for keeping us safe,” Beyoncé said as she accepted her third award of the night. “I just feel very full and very honored. It’s been many, many years, and I just wanna thank the Grammys, every songwriter, every collaborator, every producer, all of the hard work.” Beyoncé dedicated her win to Linda Martell, the first Black woman to play the Grand Ole Opry. Martell had spoken-word appearances on both “Spaghettii” and “The Linda Martell Show” on Cowboy Carter. Beyoncé becomes the first Black woman to win the award since The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in 1999. She now has 35 Grammy awards in total. Whew!
