When you combine the total number of albums made by Chaka Khan and her band, Rufus, you get 22 albums. Twenty-two! Tell you something bad: When most artists do NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert, they sing around six songs. For a legend like Rock Hall member Khan, that leaves a lot on the cutting-room floor. Khan’s Tiny Desk Concert debuted on June 11 as part of NPR’s Black Music Month series. She sang six tracks, including “Tell Me Something Good,†“What Cha’ Gonna Do for Me,†“Stay,†“Sweet Thing,†“Through the Fire,†“Ain’t Nobody,†and “I’m Every Woman.†Now, those are all stone-cold classics, and we couldn’t cut even one. Still, looking this over, don’t you miss “This Is My Night We do! And what about her Grammy-winning rendition of “I Feel for You Would like to see that! The only remedy is to invite Khan back for Tiny Desks each month until she runs out of her back catalogue. That’s what cha’ gonna do for us, NPR.
