Challengers easily took first place at the box office this weekend, bringing in $15.2 million, in line with estimates ahead of its release. The film marked the biggest opening weekend for director Luca Guadagnino, besting his last film, the Timothée Chalamet cannibal romance Bones and All. There’s still room for Challengers to recoup its $55 million budget in the weeks ahead, before it presumably moves to Amazon Prime. But next weekend will see tougher competition for the tennis drama, with the premiere of The Fall Guy starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. Coming in at a distant second place this weekend was Unsung Hero, about the formation of the Christian rock duo For King & Country, which took in $7.7 million. That came in just ahead of third place finisher Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire which earned $7.2 million. It seems like the trios are besting duos at the box office so far, so watch out, The Fall Guy…or find a third.
