Who’s ready for San Diego Comic-Con? Sure, last year was a little weird for the convention — there were a lot of Hall H cancellations amid the Hollywood strikes, and some panelists who did show up had to avoid talking about struck projects. One thing that didn’t change, though? A bunch of trailers dropped during the convention. This year’s convention bought us new looks at a range of programs from TV — Everybody Still Hates Chris, HBO’s The Penguin, and AMC/AMC+’s The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon — The Book of Carol — to blockbuster hits. Ahead, the latest trailers to come out of SDCC: Transformers One, season two of Rings of Power, and more.
Doctor Who Christmas Special
The new Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa, has a Christmas special impending starring Nicola Coughlin. Even in preview form, this combo is almost too precious to take, so expect this holiday season to do wild things to your local Whovians.
Star Trek: Section 31
Michelle Yeoh is starring in a Star Trek movie. Sorry, you needed more details? We thought that sold the whole thing. She’s playing Emperor Philippa Georgiou and, according to Paramount+, she must face “the sins of her past.†Okay, now you’re sold.
Dexter: Original Sin
So here’s a show that’s like Young Sheldon, but it’s Young Dexter, and instead of a scientist, he becomes a serial killer. Slay (literally). Patrick Gibson is playing a young version of the character on the Paramount+ with Showtime series set in 1991 Miami. In the trailer, he kills a bug. That monster!
Like a Dragon: Yakuza
This series is based on the video game Yakuza but now in live action. It’s got big shoes to fill for Prime after Fallout’s success. See if it lives up to the game or the show when it premieres October 24.
Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The TMNT have a new animation style but the same personality in the sneak peek of their new Paramount+ series. The show premieres August 9.
Batman: Caped Crusader
Make sure to note that the new Batman animated series will premiere August 1 on Prime, despite Max having the rights to all other DC properties including the Harley Quinn animated series. Don’t ask questions about streaming rights.
Wynonna Earp: Vengeance
Tubi has a new spinoff of Syfy’s Wynonna Earp, which finished airing in 2021. She’s heading back to Purgatory, this time to do battle against a “psychotic villainess.†The teaser promises, “This time evil gets Earped.â€
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Paramount+ put out a first look at Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which this season guest stars Paul Wesley and Carol Kane, in case you needed a reason to hop onboard the USS Enterprise.
The Penguin
In the new spot for The Penguin, premiering on Max September 19, you get to see skinny Colin Farrell introduce Penguin Colin Farrell.
Mayfair Witches
If you’re going through Interview With a Vampire withdrawal, then maybe this other Anne Rice show would be fun.
From
From’s third season is premiering September 22, and these residents have gotta get out ASAP. Like faster than ASAP, ideally.
Superman and Lois
Superman and Lois is back for its fourth and final season, premiering on October 17, this time subtitled Superman vs. Doomsday. Yes, “Doom†was the big word at this year’s Comic-Con.
Interview With the Vampire
Lestat’s new single is dropping! Interview With the Vampire, season 3, gave us a slight teaser of rocker Lestat as well as a taste of his glam-rock-inflected music. It’s more book-accurate to the music Lestat makes than the buttrock of Queen of the Damned, that’s for sure.
Star Trek: Lower Decks
The fifth and final season of our favorite interstellar work-com has set a premiere date: October 24. And they’re going all out for the last voyage. We’re talking Klingons, mirror selves, and a planet going post-scarcity.
Creature Commandos
Our first taste of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe is here. It seems like the Suicide Squad has been dissolved by Congress, but the nonhuman “assholes†in Team M are stepping up. Looks like they’ve got the monsters part of the DCU’s upcoming Gods and Monsters phase covered.
The Walking Dead: Dead City
In the trailer for the spinoff’s second season, Negan has reunited with Lucille, the baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire and named after his wife. That’s one way to get back into the … swing of things.
Solar Opposites
Let’s check in on the newlyweds. Korvo and Terry seem to be enjoying married life in this preview of the fifth season of the adult animation series. Will their alien team finally decide how they feel about Earth? Who knows, we’re too busy looking at the shirts!
Transformers One
Set 3 billion years before the events of the live-action Transformers, the upcoming animated flick reveals the untold origin story of Megatron and Optimus Prime, old pals who transform into enemies. They should work it out on the remix.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
Season two of Amazon Prime’s expensive-looking fantasy series teases the fall of many rings (nine) and a gruesome battle against Sauron in his quest for power. As he descends on Middle Earth, war is imminent, and gifts are not what they seem.
