RuPaul’s Drag Race executive producers Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey have announced they’re making a documentary about late Drag Race U.K. star The Vivienne. “We want to celebrate The Vivienne’s extraordinary life and work so everyone can experience her incredible talent, sass and enormous heart,” the pair said in a statement obtained by Us Weekly. The film, Dear Viv, will be made by World of Wonder with the cooperation of The Vivienne’s family. It will trace their path to Drag Race glory through the U.K. drag scene, and include tributes from fans and Drag Race U.K. contestants Baga Chipz, Michael Marouli and Danny Beard.
James Lee Williams, who performed as The Vivienne, died this January at the age of 32. A formal inquest will be held in June, but at the moment police say there were “no suspicious circumstances” to their death.
The Vivienne won the first season of Drag Race U.K., gaining accolades for her Snatch Game impression of Donald Trump. She repped the U.K. in the all-winners season of Drag Race All-Stars. “Although her stay here on Earth was far too brief, it is with tremendous admiration and affection that we share her legacy in Dear Viv,” wrote Barbato and Bailey. Dear Viv will premiere on WOW Presents Plus later this year.
