“I Feel Like Dancing†might be the name of a lead single on Jason Mraz’s latest album, but that doesn’t mean the singer always felt that way. In fact, on a recent episode of Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s Dinner’s on Me podcast, Mraz revealed that he lowkey tried to sabotage his own run on season 32 of Dancing With the Stars. According to Mraz, he went into the competition thinking he would be eliminated early, only to realize around two or three weeks in that he was probably going to make it to the end. “I’m terrified. I have to cancel all my plans for the entire rest of the year, and I’m missing my cat terribly,†he recalled. “And I start telling my friends, ‘Stop voting for me.’ ‘Cause the only way I can get off this show is if I don’t get enough votes.†He said he even told producers he was ready to go home. We suppose he was too much of a professional to do the obvious thing and purposely start performing poorly? Ultimately, any behind-the-scenes attempts to lose votes couldn’t keep Mraz and his dance partner Daniella Karagach from placing second behind Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy. “Having made it all the way to the very end, made it to the buzzer, I look back and laugh and think, well, ‘Maybe if I’d actually given a shit,’†Mraz reflected. He added that he would “try really hard†if he could redo the experience, noting that he would also go back for a Dancing with the Stars All-Star season. Maybe his cat could come with him this time?
