From scary guy to wife guy, Michael Emerson has the range. At the NYCC Elsbeth panel, Emerson announced he’d be joining the show in a recurring role as a “haughty†judge. Starring Emerson’s wife, Carrie Preston, Elsbeth is about a woman taking on New York’s justice system, solving cases for the cops despite the fact that she’s an attorney. Now she’ll Emerson’s Judge Milton Crawford to contend with. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Judge Crawford “sees his place in the nation’s elite as a birthright,†which rubs up against Elsbeth Tascioni’s outsider gal-of-the-people thing. Spun off from The Good Fight (and thus also from The Good Wife), most eps of Elsbeth are “howcatchems†rather than “whodunnits.†The joy is not in figuring out the killer of the week (the most famous guest star, probs), but in seeing how Elsbeth and her cop buddy connect the dots. Also the coats, a big part of the show is Coats. Season 2 premiered earlier this week.
