For some reason, most of The Perfect Couple cast wanted to do without the show’s silly group-dance number. Were they born in Bomont? Director Susanne Bier told Vulture at the series premiere in Hollywood on Wednesday that she had to a lot of convincing to get the synchronized dance on our screens: “I wanted to do [the dance]. It was my idea and I was pushing for it. We sent [the cast] the video of the dance, and they were like ‘We’re not doing it, we’re not doing it, it’s too tricky.’†As for the choice to use Meghan Trainor’s “Criminalâ€? Bier straight up just loved the song and thought it was a perfect fit. “The fact that she’s just singing about criminals just worked for this.â€

Meghann Fahy told Variety that she has issues learning choreography, and the team went as far as making a WhatsApp group chat to organize against the idea: “Everyone was on that group saying they didn’t want to do this because we just didn’t understand.†Kidman admitted that she thought her character, famous and mysterious author Greer Winbury, wouldn’t bust a move at her own son’s wedding,:“Because I didn’t feel like Greer would dance! I felt like Greer would watch. But I danced as Greer. I think it’s great and I’m so glad they got us all to do it. ’Cause there’s some joy in it.â€

There was one brave cast member who bopped to his own beat, and that man was Liev Schreiber. He told Variety how he was already “practicing the dance moves†while everyone else was trying to delay the dance as much as possible. “I just like dancing and I was kinda disappointed when it came out that I’m not in it more, because I thought I did it really well.â€
