If a caveman were to crawl out of his cave this week, unfrozen from a block of ice and perfectly alert, and if that caveman were to then go on the internet and develop a fascination with Rashida Jones, then that caveman would associate Jones with Saturday Night Live so fully that to learn that she had never hosted the program would send him back into the ice. On July 9, Jones went on Late Night With Seth Meyers to promote her new Apple TV+ show Sunny and recounted how she’d club throughout the 2000s with the entirety of SNL cast, because she worked as a club promoter between gigs and she knew to invite them. This followed Amy Poehler posting a TikTok featuring her former SNL co-workers Meyers and Rachel Dratch alongside Jones, which went viral the same day.

Jones, it is clear, is entirely comfortable with the SNL crew and blends right in, even. So how is it possible that she hasn’t hosted? She’s been on multiple NBC sitcoms at this point, most notably The Office and Parks and Recreation, she’s charming and affable, she’s technically a nepo baby but nobody thinks about it like that, and she maybe dated Colin Jost for a little bit. She’d be a great SNL host! And it’s not even that we think she’d be so incredible, it’s more that this just feels like an oversight. She’s famous! She hangs out with comedians! Lorne, you’ve gotta make this right. This whole operation feels cosmically off now.
