Zack Synder’s Rebel Moon is saving the best of the action for last after leaving us all on a cliffhanger last Christmas. The final half is heading to Netflix this April— but that doesn’t mean more of the (out of this) world won’t be told elsewhere. Synder and co. are releasing a prequel graphic novel, a podcast, and a photo book, all surrounding the lore of Rebel Moon. Before we dive completely, we have to be acquainted with the basics of Kora, General Balisarius, and all things Motherworld. Here’s everything we know so far about Rebel Moon Part Two (and what we learned already from Part One).
Oh, a new trailer perhaps?
It’s fighting boot camp as the rebels prepare for battle.
Any new additions to the cast?
As of right now, not really. Stars returning for part two include Sofia Boutella, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Staz Nair, Anthony Hopkins (as the voice of Jimmy), Fra Fee, Cleopatra Coleman, Stuart Martin, Ingvar Sigurðsson, Alfonso Herrera, Cary Elwes, Rhian Rees, Elise Duffy, Sky Yang, and Charlotte Maggi.
What happened in the first movie?
The first Rebel Moon film introduces us to Kora (Boutella), the estranged adopted daughter of General Balisarius (Fee), a warlord who took over their planet, Motherworld, after murdering their monarchy. She’s agricultural worker on an isolated moon when her father’s henchman of the Imperium, Atticus Noble (Skrein), comes to terrorize the area and threatens to take their wheat, leaving them to starve. Noble eventually takes off and leaves soldiers and a robot named Jimmy (the voice of Hopkins) to monitor the farmers. Eventually, Jimmy breaks free from the villain’s control and teams up with Kora to kill soldiers trying to assault a villager. She tells the other townsfolks they need to prepare to fight Noble whenever he gets back, as they will all be killed when he returns.
Their rebel army includes Gunnar (Huisman)— the farmer, Titus (Hounsou)— a former Imperium general, Tarak (Nair) — a beast tamer, Nemesis (Bae)— a swordsman, and Kai (Hunnam)— a smuggler who lives up to his role. As Kora is assembling their crew, Noble gets wind of this and annihilates the planet of Sharaan after the rebels make a stop to recruit fighters. Kai, again living up to the whole smuggler thing, gives up the rebels to Noble to collect the bounty on their heads. Noble tries to get them to turn on each other, even attempting to get Gunnar to kill Kora, but he instead kills Kai. Kora kills Noble, and peace resumes in the galaxy… right? Wrong! Somehow Noble is resurrected by Balisarius, who vows to kill Kora himself, leading into the next film.
When does it come out?
Take off to another galaxy on April 19, 2024.
