Now that Timothée Chalamet has called him a poker “beast,” Nathan Fielder is about to re-enter our lives in a big way. The comedian, actor, and social engineer is getting ready to release the second season of HBO’s The Rehearsal on April 20. That’s according to a new teaser from the network otherwise scant on details about the follow-up. “In season two, the urgency of Fielder’s project grows as he decides to put his resources toward an issue that affects us all,” HBO wrote in a release accompanying the teaser.
The first season of The Rehearsal was a surprise phenomenon when it debuted in 2022. It inspired memes (“door city over here”), discourse on social media, and critical essays about the ethics of Fielder’s experimental project. “Nathan has sparked such a lively conversation with The Rehearsal,” said Amy Gravitt, HBO’s executive vice-president, when the network announced the show’s renewal that year. “We have no idea where season two will take us, and that is the delight of this boundary-pushing show from a truly singular talent.”
Wherever we’re going, get ready to stare agape at your television set in disbelief.
