Sabrina Carpenter knows that working with Jack Antonoff won’t please please please a lot of pop fans — and she doesn’t care. “Fuck them all,†she told Rolling Stone of Antonoff’s critics, who think the super-producer makes pop stars (like her friend Taylor Swift) sound boring. Carpenter has wanted to work with Antonoff “for my whole life,†and now he’s producing about half of her new album, Short n’ Sweet. “I think he’s one of the most talented people I’ve ever met,†Carpenter said. “When he’s in a room, he’s able to literally touch every instrument in the room and make it sound magical. He also works very fast, which I really appreciate because I work very fast.†While she didn’t know if Antonoff’s songs, like new single “Please Please Please,†would mesh with the rest of her album, she said “everything came together†eventually.
Carpenter is taking after her mentor, Swift, by working with Antonoff. But she’s also doing some things that Swift would never do — like modeling in Kim Kardashian’s new Skims campaign. She told Rolling Stone she was “very, very communicative†to Swift about the campaign and that she supports her friend “till the end.†“So it was no weirdness for me, but I know people will just say things because that’s all they have time to do,†she said of the online reaction. Can’t a girl just wear some lace and work with pop’s biggest producer without causing a ruckus?
