It seems like just yesterday that Emma Stone was impersonating Gilda Radner on the SNL40 special, but according to our calculations, that must have actually been ten years ago. In honor of Saturday Night Live’s 50th season, NBC and Peacock are putting together a major celebration (or two), with every celebrity and their mother attending. In addition to SNL50: The Anniversary Special, the grand event, there’s also a special musical bash. Below, a rundown of everything you need to know to get in your hahas and lalalas.
Who’s going to be at the 50th-anniversary special?
Of the current and former cast members: Adam Sandler, Amy Poehler, Andy Samberg, Chevy Chase, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Fred Armisen, Garrett Morris, Jane Curtin, Jason Sudeikis, Jimmy Fallon, Kate McKinnon, Kenan Thompson, Kristen Wiig, Laraine Newman, Maya Rudolph, Martin Short, Molly Shannon, Pete Davidson, Seth Meyers, Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, Will Ferrell, and Will Forte. But since NBC is still promising more guests, maybe they’re saving Rachel Dratch so America doesn’t get too excited and climb light poles like a country of Philadelphians.
There’s also a bunch of non–cast members who will be there to take part in the fun. Those names include Adam Driver, Ayo Edebiri, Bad Bunny, Dave Chappelle, John Mulaney, Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Pedro Pascal, Peyton Manning, Quinta Brunson, Robert De Niro, Sabrina Carpenter, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Martin, Tom Hanks, and Woody Harrelson. And, yes, Steve Martin was never officially a cast member of Saturday Night Live. Look it up.
When is it?
The three-hour-long special will air on Sunday, February 16, at 8 p.m. ET. It will be available on either NBC or Peacock, for the streamers among you.
Is there a red carpet?
Yes. And actually, you have two options. On NBC, Willie Geist and Leslie Jones are hosting a red carpet show with correspondent Matt Rogers. It will start at 7 p.m. ET. In addition to NBC, it wil air on E! and Peacock.
Chicken Shop Date host Amelia Dimoldenberg will be checking in as a correspondent for a red carpet that will stream on all SNL’s social media platforms starting at 7 p.m. ET.
What about the music show?
That, too! Jimmy Fallon hosted a concert at Radio City Music Hall on Valentine’s Day. Those in the mood for love can stream a replay of the SNL 50: The Homecoming Concert on Peacock. The show featured a slew of musical icons, including Cher, Dave Grohl, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Snoop Dogg, St. Vincent and Wyclef Jean. Former cast members confirmed to be joining Fallon include Ana Gasteyer, Andy Samberg, Maya Rudolph, Paul Shaffer, Tracy Morgan, and Will Ferrell. And they’re not even the half of it. SNL previously confirmed that musicians including Arcade Fire, Backstreet Boys, Bad Bunny, Bonnie Raitt, Brandi Carlile, Brittany Howard, Chris Martin, David Byrne, DEVO, Eddie Vedder, Jack White, Jelly Roll, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Mumford & Sons, Post Malone, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Robyn, The B-52s, and The Roots will be there. That makes Miley Cyrus the only person confirmed to be at both events — she really is always getting the best of both worlds. The concert originally aired live on Peacock at 8 p.m. ET on Valentine’s Day — very romantic.
