“There are good ships and wood ships, ships that sail the sea, but the best ships are friendships, and may they always be,” says an Irish proverb. Well, Tim Robinson knows that they may not always be, and that sucks, actually. The trailer for Robinson’s upcoming film Friendship debuted on February 11, and the story might just make your heart break, if the delivery wasn’t so Robinsonian. Robinson’s character, Craig, makes an adult male friendship with Brian (Paul Rudd), then Brian tells him he wants to break it off. Like much of Robinson’s work, namely I Think You Should Leave, the premise is both ridiculous while getting at a real fear within a socially stunted adult man.
The film also stars Kate Mara as Craig’s wife, Tami, and was both written and directed by Andrew DeYoung (Would It Kill You to Laugh?). It debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in the Midnight slot, where it was picked up for U.S. distribution by A24. It will be in theaters this May. This spring, we think you should leave (your house, so you can go to the theater and watch this movie).
