What makes a man a Chalamet? Poise? Streetwear? Statistics? More than 2,500 gathered to find out (or at least that’s how many people RSVP’d on Partiful). YouTuber Anthony Po organized New York’s first Timothée Chalamet look-alike contest at Washington Square Park on October 27. Per the Associated Press, the event was fined for “unpermitted costume contest,” and one contestant was arrested. So the event got shut down by the five-o, but not before crowning a winner and being visited by Timmy himself. Fans got video footage of Chalamet in the crowd, as well as footage of the police breaking up the contest. But Chalamets love a challenge, apparently, and the group reconvened at a second location. There, a Wonka was crowned the winner and received $50. According to our on-the-ground reporters, the winning Wonka is a 21-year-old college student who will spend his prize money on candy. Likely thing for a Wonka to do.
Besides Wonka Timmy and Real Timmy, there were Chalamets of every flavor on display. Streetwear Timmys, A Complete Unknown Timmys, and one guy who flew in from Wisconsin to compete. At the first location, contestants were quizzed on their French and asked about Kylie Jenner. At the second spot, the evaluation was much curtailed: “A Timothée will come up. You will say yay or boo, and that’s it.”
