Get ready to dance, dance, dance with your hands above your head, Wednesday fans. The Jenna Ortega–led show has officially escaped Netflix’s one-and-done cancellation curse and been renewed for a second season. “It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world. Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two,†showrunners and executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar confirmed to Tudum.com May 7. “We can’t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.†Below, what we know about the goth girl’s next semester at Nevermore Academy, straight from Enid’s gossip blog.
Who’s in the cast?
Good question. Netflix unveiled the cast list for the upcoming season on May 7, and three series regulars have vanished from the roster. Jenna Ortega will return as the titular Addams Family character, alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán as Morticia and Gomez Addams, respectively. Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Victor Dorobantu, and Isaac Ordonez will reprise their roles, adding Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, and Noah Taylor as series regulars. Guest stars include Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Joanna Lumley, Thandiwe Newton, Heather Matarazzo, Joonas Suotamo, and Christopher Lloyd, who’s known for his role as Fester in the ’90s movies.
Percy Hynes White, Jamie McShane, and Naomi J. Ogawa will not return to Wednesday as main cast members, Deadline confirmed. McShane, who plays Sheriff Donovan Galpin, will solely appear as a guest star, likely wrapping up last season’s story line involving his son Tyler (Hunter Doohan). Otherwise, Hynes White and Ogawa have exited the show altogether.
What’s going on with Percy Hynes White?
In January 2023, a Twitter user accused Hynes White of sexually assaulting her at a party while she was drunk, claiming he assaulted multiple women and allegedly threw parties where he provided underage girls with drugs and alcohol to have sex with them. The actor denied the allegations in June 2023 with a statement posted on Instagram. “Earlier this year, somebody I’ve never met started a campaign of misinformation about me online,†reads the statement, “Because of this, my family has been doxxed, and my friends have received death threats. Underage photos of me were used, and examples of me acting in character were presented as hateful.†Hynes White also denied broader allegations of misogyny and racism.
Is the show leaving Netflix?
In early January, fans began to speculate that the show could relaunch on Prime Video or MGM’s streaming platform Epix (which will soon be reborn as MGM+), due to Amazon’s acquisition of MGM. But this isn’t the case: A press release has confirmed the show’s second season will air on Netflix because, as an industry insider previously told Vulture, Netflix and MGM signed their Wednesday deal well before Amazon’s purchase.
Where’s the new season being filmed?
Wednesday is making the move from Romania to Ireland, according to Deadline, with production reported to start sometime in April.
When will Wednesday season two drop?
No release date has been announced so far. But we’re betting that, like the first season, it’ll be on a Wednesday.
