• South America is located mostly in the southern hemisphere.
• It has the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west.
• Many people speak Spanish or Portuguese.
• There are all types of weather and different landscapes in South America. There are cold areas with snowy, high mountains and warm areas with sandy beaches or rainforests.

What is in South America?

• Brazil is the country with the biggest area in South America. It also has the largest population.

• The Amazon river is one of the longest in the world. It is in the Amazon rainforest.

• Angel Falls in Venezuela is the world's highest waterfall.

• The Andes mountains are in seven different countries in South America: Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina.

• Big cities in South America include São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Lima (Peru).

What are children's lives like?

• Families may have a garden where they can grow food.
• Children may play outside on the patio in the warm weather.
• There are lots of big windows to make homes cooler.

Let's compare Peru and the UK

• The landscape in Peru is hilly.
• There are lots of different landscapes in Peru. It can be warm and tropical in the east and a dry desert in the west. It can also be extremely cold in the Andes mountains.
• People grow different foods in Peru. The weather isn't warm enough to grow bananas in the UK but you can in Peru.
• Just like in the UK, there are smaller and much bigger places. Lima, the capital of Peru is much bigger than London. There are many more people and homes.
