Rap music is when you speak words to a beat instead of singing them. The words sometimes rhyme.
Watch this video from YolanDa's Band Jam as Hermela meets Princess and Saffron, who help her to write her own rap about being happy and positive.
Narrator: Someone else who likes beats is Hermela. She's a rapper. Rap music is where you speak words to a beat. The words often rhyme.
Hermela: Rap music helps me tell stories about my life. It makes me feel happy.
Narrator: Princess and Saffron are rip-roaring rappers, and today, Hermela's dad has brought her to the studio to work on her latest rap.
Hermela: I've written a rap about being happy and positive to show Princess and Saffron.
Hermela: Hi, I'm Hermela.
Princess: Hi, I'm Princess.
Saffron: And I'm Saffron.
Hermela: I'm a rapper and I wrote a rap for you guys.
Princess: OK, let's hear it!
Narrator: Princess and Saffron are playing some music for Hermela to rap to.
Hermela: Listen up here.
Princess: Woo!
Hermela: One, two, three. And. My friends all support me.
Narrator: Hermela's rapping her words in time with the music!
Hermela: We must stand together. We must shine together.
Princess and Saffron: Oh! That's really good!
Saffron: You moved your body with it.
Princess: And you were like, yeah.
Saffron: That's really good. ‘Come together, my friends’ like that. That was good.
Narrator: I think Princess has some ideas.
Princess: We must stand together, shine together. Bring peace to the world, yeah.
Hermela: OK.
Princess: Do you get what I mean? Yeah.
Hermela: When we say ‘yeah’, should we all do it?
Princess: Oh, yeah, we'll all say ‘yeah’ with you.
Saffron: We'll all say ‘yeah’.
Hermela: We must stand together, shine together. Bring peace to the world.
All: Yeah.
Saffron: Hey! I like this, I like this. Yeah.
Princess: Stand up straight always, and, like, have confidence in what you're saying because you're talking about being friends and shining together so you have to make sure you believe it so that the people you're telling should believe it also.
Saffron: Shall we record it?
Hermela: OK.
Princess: Ooh, I'm excited. High five, everybody.
Narrator: So, here we go, time to record with Princess, Saffron, and a few of their friends.
Hermela: Turn the beat up. OK, three, two, one and my friends are all supporting me.
Narrator: Sounding fantastic, Hermela.
Hermela: We must stand together, shine together. Bring peace to the world.
All: Yeah! Though your heart is stamping.
Narrator: Great performance, Hermela. Confidence, rapping to the beat, and a huge smile.
All: You're lying to yourself. Don't make sense to no-one else. Let your true colours shine through. You don't have to be cool, just be you.
Narrator: Let's get rapping everyone.
