You can count the dots on the dice.
There are 4 dots.
You can also count the beads and the teddy bears.
There are 4 beads.
There are 4 teddy bears
You can read the word – it is 4! You can write the word ‘four’.
Example 2
Here are some representations of a number.

What number can you see?
✓ These are representations of the number 6.

You can count there are 6 counters in the tens frame.
The part-whole model contains 2 lots of 3.
3 + 3 = 6
There are also two dice. Each dice has 3 dots.
3 + 3 = 6
All of these number representations show 6.
