Complaint

A listener complained that coverage of Prime Minister’s Question Time failed to mention the presence in the public gallery of the mother of a British citizen held hostage in Gaza. The ECU considered whether the programme met the requirements of due impartiality set out in the Editorial Guidelines.

Outcome

The complainant suggested the absence of a reference to Mandy Damari was evidence of an anti-Israel stance on the part of the BBC.   However the ECU noted the broadcast did include reference to Ms Damari in the form of live coverage of remarks made by the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition and leader of the Liberal Democrats.  Accordingly the ECU saw no grounds for upholding the complaint.
