Michael Shannon has landed the part of General Zod, a villain who faces off against Superman, in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman: Man of Steel reboot. Like Superman, played by Henry Cavill, Zod hails from Krypton, where he commanded its armed forces. The character appeared in 1978’s Superman and the 1980 sequel Superman II. “Zod is one of Superman’s most significant enemies because he has insights into Superman that others don’t,” Snyder explained. “Michael can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character.” So far, Snyder’s lining up a cast of pleasant surprises.
