Jeff Wilpon had previously hinted at some sort of price cut, and today the team announced that ticket prices for 2011 would be reduced by an average of more than 14 percent, and that season ticket, ticket plan, and group ticket customers would receive an additional 10 percent discount. They’re also changing their pricing structure from five different tiers to a slightly less confusing four tiers.
Some details, directly from the Mets:
• Ticket prices for 62 percent of the ballpark have been reduced
• More than half of all seats have double-digit price reductions
• 18 percent of the seats have been cut by 20 percent or more
• 8 percent of seats have price decreases of 30 percent or more
• Several seat categories have modest increases that average approximately 5 percent
That last item indicates that Wilpon can expect at least a few strongly worded letters from fans who will actually see their ticket prices rise, but on the whole, it represents the seventh-largest price reduction in franchise history, excluding years in which the team moved into a new ballpark.
