As expected — although perhaps a few days earlier than expected — the Rangers have named Ryan Callahan the 26th captain in franchise history. Callahan, as we’ve written before, deserves the C: He embodies the style of play John Tortorella demands of his team, and he’s a homegrown player, to boot. (Not that Rangers fans need to be told this, but he’s the first homegrown captain since Brian Leetch.) Marc Staal, who wore an A last year, and Brad Richards were named alternate captains.
