Well, the Yankees had done a splendid job of suppressing the Rangers’ offense through the first three games of the series, but that all fell apart today, as New York missed the sweep with a 10-6 loss. Ivan Nova’s struggles weren’t totally his fault — folks will rightfully point to an apparent ankle injury and the ball Andruw Jones lost in the sun during the 6th inning — but he and every successive member of the bullpen got pretty roundly thumped by the Texas bats today. Joba Chamberlain, in particular, looked quite rusty in an inning and a third, and left the field to a shower of boos. (In spite of this, Joe Girardi suggested in his press conference that he’d let Chamberlain pitch through the rust.) A motley Yankee lineup actually came back and took a 5-4 lead in a huge sixth inning, but it wasn’t nearly enough. Oh well. Up next: the Red Sox!
