After revealing she had been offered the job earlier this week, ABC News announced today it has officially stolen Christiane Amanpour away from CNN to host This Week, its Sunday-morning news program. Amanpour, who was a foreign correspondent at CNN for over two decades, will bring her expertise in international affairs to the new venue.
“With Christiane we have the opportunity to provide our audiences with something different on Sunday mornings,” ABC News president David Westin said. “We will continue to provide the best in interviews and analysis about domestic politics and policies. But now we will add to that an international perspective.”
Amanpour, who is taking over for George Stephanopoulos (now on Good Morning America), will begin the new gig in August.
