During the 2008 campaign, most pundits agreed Republican Colin Powell’s resounding endorsement of Barack Obama had an impact. Powell’s the type of level-headed guy who’s unlikely to go on the record advocating for someone in an election that’s still more than a year away. But it’s never too early for CNN to start asking for his 2012 endorsement: “I’m not committed to Barack Obama,” he admitted. “I’m not committed to a Republican candidate. I am not committed to any candidate until I see all the candidates and finally see who the two candidates are who are going for this position. Right now, I do not see on the Republican side any one individual who I think is going to emerge at the top of the pile.” [44/WP]
