As Michael Bloomberg’s reign winds to a close, we must cherish every Friday morning that he takes to the radio to bluster like a white billionaire Kanye West. Today he regaled the city with tales of before he fixed everything, when Central Park’s Tavern on the Green took off because all other food-serving establishments were under siege. “In those days, the streets weren’t safe, and you couldn’t go to most restaurants,” the mayor said. “Today the streets are safe, and there’s lots of restaurants, so you have to appeal to a different genre of food. And [the new, less fancy Tavern] is gonna be very elegant and fit into the park décor and the kind of food that people today who are in the park want.” Bloomberg, of course, will not be caught dead with that riffraff.
