Bad news, beach lovers: Gothamist reports that there’s every chance the popular stretch of beach along Fort Tilden won’t open this summer, for the second year in a row, after Sandy damaged it last year. “The hazardous debris in the sand (metal and broken slabs of concrete from Shore Road) is still in the sand … What remains are the bigger things: pieces of metal, broken pieces of concrete from the road,” Gateway National Recreation Area Daphne Yun said. And they haven’t even assigned a contractor yet to clean it.
