Facebook Would Really, Really Like You to Use Watch Party

Great news for all you folks out there who like to whip up some popcorn, settle into your couch, and watch Facebook Live videos in real time while chatting with a select group of friends around the world. Oh, what’s that, you’re not one of those folks? You didn’t even know those folks existed? Well … they apparently do. And they’re getting an update to Facebook’s Watch Party feature today.

The platform announced in a blog post on Tuesday that it’s rolling out Watch Party “to all Pages and people on Facebook.” Prior this this, it was only available within certain groups. “Since launch, there have been more than 12 million Watch Parties in Groups, and Watch Parties garner eight times as many comments than non-live videos in Groups,” Facebook also said. Though that could mean non-live videos in Groups garner two comments and Watch Parties in groups garner 16; the absence of actual data means Facebook’s claims don’t actually mean anything.

So now you can host your own Watch Party, which is what Facebook, with its obsession with “community building,” would like you to do. Or, better suggestion, just make yourself some popcorn, settle into your couch, and watch season one of Search Party and text me about it while you do.
