Profile
In 1997, international heavyweight Marlborough stretched beyond 57th Street and dipped its toe into the Chelsea art scene. Works by the gallery's blue-chip roster of artists Greg Bogin, Ari Marcopoulos, Yoshiaki Mochizuki, and Julius von Bismarck make frequent appearances. More often, the downtown address allows stuffy Marlborough to loosen its tie. You're more likely to see shows devoted to mid-career artists, who, like their well-established counterparts uptown, tend to favor figurative painting, drawing, and freestanding sculpture.
