Profile
Former dancer and Phsique 57 instructor Brynn Jinnett opened this boutique circuit-training fitness studio on the Upper East Side in October 2010. Located in an industrial-looking, garage-like room on the ground floor of a church, Jinnett and two other instructors on staff teach daily twelve-person classes mainly to young Upper East Side women. Using a pulley system, a barre, and sliding discs, the one-hour session is a nonstop cardio workout, incorporating strength training throughout, mainly through resistance from the cords on the pulley system. Jinnett, who loathes gimmicky workout styles, designed the Refine Method to imitate the way the body moves on a daily basis. And while this sort of thinking lowers any chances of injury, don’t expect an easy out. First timers should anticipate soreness for days.
Pros
Classes max out at 12, so expect plenty of personal attention; classes for first-timers are complimentary.
Cons
Although equipped with a shower, there is only a one-person bathroom available for changing.
