Profile
On a block lit up by Broadway theaters and Irish pubs, the huge, unmarked black door of the Night Hotel stands out for its simplicity. Step through this castlelike entrance and you’ll be met not by a hunchbacked butler, but by black-clad staff welcoming you into a dimly lit lobby. Sensing a theme? Save for the odd steel desk and clear plastic lamp, everything in Night is black, white, or black and white. This Gothic Gotham approach works even if it makes the smaller among the 70 rooms (with doubles or kings) a touch claustrophobic. If space is your concern, simply go to the higher end of the spectrum. One penthouse suite is a large king with shared terrace, while the other is a rock-star-worthy bi-level chamber with a circular bed, Bang & Olufsen sound system, two terraces, and a roof deck. Even the less fancy rooms come with comfy Chariot beds, Frette linens, plasma flat-screens, room service from Nightlife, and Molton Brown products in the shower-only bathrooms. And with heavy velvet curtains throughout, you are destined for a good night’s sleep.
ProsCentral location; intimate size and dark décor make it feel more private club than hotel; ideal for clandestine rendezvous.
Cons
Ultrahip décor could be too stylized for some; too small lobby lounge; no business, workout, or spa facilities; fee for wi-fi and in-room Internet.
