Review

Unbowed by cruel reviews of his novel, Ethan Hawke adapts it into a surprisingly moving film about a young singer (Catalina Sandino Moreno) who falls in and out of love with a whiny, obsessive actor (Mark Webber). The talky, earnest result clearly draws on Hawke’s experience with Richard Linklater�and, thankfully, it feels more sincere than calculated. Webber channels Hawke’s mannerisms and speech rhythms�but in a more successful manner than you might expect.
