This high-end European men’s store takes its name from the eighteenth-century British dandy who grandfathered modern menswear by popularizing the custom-fitted suit and tie. Appropriately, the well-lit, whitewashed-brick space is dominated by jacket-and-slacks sets and rolled-up neckties in every color of the rainbowand has a tailor who can measure customers on-site. The store sells an eponymous line of clothing featuring suede jackets and suits cut from fine Italian fabrics, plus a wide range of designer labels like Pal Zileri, Thierry Mugler, and Maria di Ripabianca. But it’s not all work and no play here. Beau Brummel also stocks playful, brightly patterned button-down shirts, cognac-colored merino knitwear, and Seal Kay Italian denim jeans. Plus there’s a wide range of fashionable miscellany: socks, belts, gloves, wool caps, Art Deco cufflinks, and Austrian stones. After trying on the ladder-shelved Giovanni Gentile leather boots and loafers, shoppers can cool their heels at the crescent-shaped bar in the rear of the showroom, where the TV is tuned to ESPN, and martinis, white wine, and scotch are always on the house.
