Profile

Clothes hounds can buy, sell, and trade both new and used fashions at Buffalo Exchange. Kerstin and Spencer Block founded the original store in 1974 in Tucson, Ariz., and since then it has grown to include 33 stores and three franchises in 13 states. This industrial-cool Williamsburg space is the chain’s first New York outpost, featuring light green walls, beaded metal fringe curtains, exposed pipes, and an alternative soundtrack. The styles reflect the tastes of the neighborhood, including a large selection of new and used women’s jeans, rumpled button down shirts, screen-printed T-shirts, and countless dresses in silk, suede, and cotton. The stock caters to thrifty young Brooklynites, with brands ranging from Armani to Volcom. Towering round racks bear the shop’s extensive shoe collection, with a focus on sneakers and worn-in Converses. Shelves near the register display hats, handbags, and funky jewelry, like gothic-inspired necklaces and feather earrings.

Extra

The green-minded chain donates five cents to charity for each customer who elects not to take a shopping bag, and periodic sales benefit local charities.
