With its well-worn rug and distinctly earthy smell, this tiny shop feels a bit like an ancient apothecary�a fitting description for a store owned and run by �green witch� Lata Chettri-Kennedy. A knowledgeable herbalist and flower shaman, Chettri-Kennedy has filled her store with a diverse selection of herbs, essences, tinctures, and salves�everything you need for alternative healing. Large glass jars full of top-quality dried herbs, roots, flowers, leaves, and seeds (all organically grown on farms in the U.S.) line one wall from floor to ceiling. Behind the counter is a huge selection of herbal tinctures from Herb Farm and Gaia, as well as high-quality essential oils at lower-than-usual prices, including the full line of FES flower essences. (This is one of the only stores in Manhattan to carry the whole line.) Bookshelves display a small selection of herbal handbooks and gem essences, rose water, henna, herbal teas, and massage oils, along with a small selection of ear candles, Neti pots, and teapots. — Amanda Theunissen
