Profile
Always dreamed of seeing your name in lights? This design studio can make it happen. Since 1972, the artisans at this modest warehouse have been crafting neon signs and other glowing accents, like curvaceous Marilyn Monroe silhouettes and martini-flanked clocks, for commercial venues and private clients; Coca-Cola, Versace, HBO, the Beastie Boys and MoMA are among the studio's highest-profile customers. The industrial space is as dimly lit as one of the taverns or lounges that likely house its signs, and is primarily illuminated by the neon artworks on display in a minimal front showroom. At consultation desks planted midway along a roughly finished dark wood floor, clients can describe their neon visions and view sketches of pieces they wish to rent or buy. In addition to creating original designs, the shop also embellishes antique clocks with neon details and restores vintage signs. Everything from fabrication to glass bending is done in-house in the shop's rear production area.
