Profile
Yuji Ogata designs children’s apparel for small sophisticates, presenting tweed trenches with jaunty upturned collars, hand-stitched, fur-lined leather moccasins, and silky alpaca cardigans for infants through 10-year-olds. The weathered wooden floorboards, natural lighting, and bare white walls give the space a classic feel, as do the clothes, which favor luxurious fabrics in muted shades of grey, cream, black, and pale pink. In the summer, voluminous black polyester bubble jumpers, Pépé leather sandals, and button-downs with ruffled necklines are best sellers, while colder months bring dainty knit hats and mittens, cushy wool vests tied with ribbon, corduroy trousers, and stiff peacoats. Wicker baskets in the back of the shop are filled with discounted items from previous seasons, like cotton onesies, pajama sets, or light plaid jackets. But it’s the urbane accessories that make the shop a baby shower favorite among Soho’s fashion set, from pinstriped denim caps to mini leather man bags.
