Profile
The US flagship of Marimekko is a veritable Willy Wonka Factory of textiles, a place chock-full of vivid colors and visual treats. The Finnish brand specializes in graphic prints, and these adorn everything from teacups and napkins to bags and dresses. The store itself is airy with white walls, tall ceilings, and wood floors, all of which provide an appropriately blank canvas for the vibrant patterns and cheery hues splashed across the room. The star of the show, of course, are the bolts of fabric placed squarely near the entrance, where you can let your domestic fantasies run wildthe store can turn any of them into tablecloths, napkins, or curtains. Crafters are also able to take them home by the yard to create something entirely their own. And if no ideas come to mind, the smiley, largely Scandinavian staff stands by eager to advise.
