A nondescript storefront on a calm stretch of Ninth Avenue won't clue you in to the luxurious home-decor store inside. Nest Interiors caters to a thick-walleted clientele of stylists and decorators all looking for that one-of-a-kind objet d'art to complete a room. Hand-blown glasswork, trinkets made from unexpected materials, delicate tableware, and decorative pillows make up the bulk of the stock. Since 2004, owners Lana Sexton and Henry Stozek have been curating an eclectic mix of merchandise, a third of which comes from New York artists and designers. Their tastes tend toward natural, organic shapes; classic, clean designs; and a stark, sophisticated color palette. Sexton, an interior designer herself, may happily offer customers advice without pretension, but Nest makes no bones about an obviously inverse relationship between form and function here: A pillow covered in ostrich feathers should never be used as a real cushion, and shells probably don't make the greatest dishes. — Katy Ansite
