British-based designer Oliver Spencer’s background as an art designer for Levi’s is reflected at his U.S. flagship store. Ruggedness and elegance collide in displays involving rusting steamer trunks and suede Folk loafers; a battered magnifying glass and hatchet-shaped pendant jewelry; and bell jars stuffed with rolled-up, necktie-sporting dress shirts. Strips of moss, a wall ringed with mounted beetles and butterflies, and a lush assembly of potted plants reinforce the outdoorsy vibe. The small, impeccably dressed staff helps customers sort through the inventory�mostly comprised of Spencer’s own line, but also other brands that complement his aesthetic, such as rag & bone, Y.M.C., and Trovata. Scarred wooden tables hold meticulous displays of polos, striped cardigans, and designer jeans, and the racks are filled with sports jackets and primly checked shirts. Accessories like worn-looking messenger bags, leather footwear, wallets, and sunglasses round out the collection, and several shelves of grooming products by Clark’s Botanicals and Sharp’s add the finishing touch. — Alex Littlefield
