This Hell’s Kitchen thrift shop is stocked almost entirely from donations, carefully sorted by managers Peter Valentyne and Keith Benedict. The pair fosters an inviting, homey vibe, with scented oils perfuming the air, jazz playing overhead, and dog treats behind the counter for the shop’s many �neighborhood friends.� (The spot doubles as a hangout for loyal locals, many of whom know the managers by name.) The selection offers a mash-up of clothes, books, costume jewelry, CDs, handbags, giftable glassware and frames, and more, including Valentyne’s handmade soaps and cards and Benedict’s hand-painted clothing. Bookshelves are stocked with used volumes ranging from Shakespeare to Vonnegut, plus a solid assortment of plays. Recent standouts on the clothing racks include vintage silk ties for men and eighties beaded jackets for women. Cases of costume jewelry are filled with glittery rhinestone bracelets and Art Deco�inspired earrings. The inventory is updated several times a week, and proceeds help fund charity work at the nearby St. Clement’s Episcopal Church. — Kathryn H. Cusimano
