After ten years in Prospect Heights, knitwear designer Staceyjoy Elkin moved her funky boutique into a former art gallery in Red Hook. The stock features offbeat clothing, home accents, toys, and accessories, including Elkin’s popular self-designed knit hats, scarves, and gloves. Unique party dresses can be paired with a variety of leggings, Lisa B. tights, and over-the-knee socks, as well as accessories like Jane Diaz’s muted metal-link jewelry, Upcycled’s purses made from old leather jackets, and lots of little hair clips, rings, and wallets. The spot is also the only place in New York to find MontBell ultralight down jackets from Japan and Minnesota hunter hats from Bemidji Woolen Mills. Kids can play with stuffed animals from Japan while their parents flip through hard-to-find magazines like Cabinet, Seed, and Lowbrow Reader. Some shoppers stop by after making a trip to the nearby Ikea to scoop up cutesy-cool accessoriesstickers, Amy Earles jointed paper dolls, soaps shaped like tiny handsto personalize their modular new Swedish wares.
