Voos is a hub for local, green-minded furniture design. The showroom opened in March 2009 on a loft-heavy stretch of the Williamsburg waterfront. Co-owners Serap Demirag (an architect) and Deger Cengiz (an architect and furniture designer) only carry items from New York�based designers, found through studio visits, trade shows, and old-fashioned word-of-mouth; Demirag estimates that 90 percent of the wares hail from Brooklyn. The store showcases 65 to 70 brands at a time, and Demirag and Cengiz rotate part of the selection every few weeks for variety. But despite the wide assortment of contributors, all the pieces have a unifying modern aesthetic, from geometric shelving units and steel-and-glass tables to sleek chaise longues and boxy sideboards. A smaller selection of home accents, lighting, and tableware displays a similarly minimalist twist. — Kaitlin Jessing-Butz
