Indian-born designer Anand Jon has a unique talent for blending the spiritual with the chic. He arrived on the fashion scene after graduating from Parsons in 1998, and teamed up with his mother that year to debut his own line during Fashion Week. The breathtaking long skirts he debuted at that first show became an instant must-have item among the fashion elite. His fusion of traditional Indian motifs (yogic yantras, gold embroidery, saris) and sleek modern looks (tight leather, Lycra blends) created an East-meets-West sensibility that continues to pervade his designs today. In 2001, Jon was awarded the Fashion Week of the Americas' "International New Star" award, which led to a Spring 2002 sponsorship by Giorgio Armani. Anand Jon's upcoming ventures include a new men's-wear line. He is also working on several film- and entertainment-related projects, including a book and TV show featuring portraits of the 100 most beautiful women in the world.
