It all started for designer Diane von Furstenberg with
one little wrap-around dress in the 1970's. More than five million
wrap dresses were sold by the end of 1976, and the design landed
on the covers of Newsweek and The Wall Street Journal. Von Furstenberg
was born in Brussels, Belgium, and studied economics at the
University of Geneva, where she met Austro-Italian Prince Egon
von Furstenberg. Von Furstenberg was a pioneer of TV-shopping
in the 1990s, became a contributing editor to Vanity Fair magazine,
and was elected to the board of the Council of Fashion Designers
of America (CFDA). Last year, the style icon married longtime
companion Barry Diller, chairman and CEO of USA Networks. Celebrity
clients: Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, the Hilton sisters.
