Originally from Idaho (where he got his start crafting
hats and costumes for rave attendees), rising star Jared Gold
got his formal education at the Otis College of Fashion Design
in Los Angeles. He left school after just two years, having
landed a deal with Barneys New York in 1998. His Gothic gowns
are characterized by dramatic necklines, bishop sleeves, and
sweep-the-floor lengths. In 2001, Gold debuted the Black Chandelier
label, a competitively priced line aimed at the ready-to-wear
market, and made his New York debut that same year. His recent
collections have moved away from the dark, edgy look that once
characterized his style, but have retained the high drama for
the extreme that makes him a standout.
