Although both have shown independently for years, new friends
Gary Graham and Liz Collins have teamed up professionally to
launch their first joint line, Griz, for Spring 2003. The designers
found each other's style to be inspirationally similar, and
together they share a hands-on sensibility that highlights their
individual creativity in each of the shared pieces. Graham,
who studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and trained in costume
design for The Lion King, describes his style as distressed,
rough-edged clothes that are "homespun goth." Collins, a graduate
of Rhode Island School of Design and a Gen Art fashion award
recipient, explains her clothing as "aggressively feminine,
innovative knits that are made uniquely with the highest quality
material, engineered with holes in strategic places." Together,
the duo hopes to create a new energy that is raw, spontaneous,
and most importantly, beautiful.
